Fifty years later, one of the most puzzling things for those considering the revision of the Liturgical books after the Second Vatican Council is how exactly such radical changes came to pass.Arguably, the most dramatic change was the first one - the one that actually was mandated by the Council - namely, introducing vernacular language into the Rite of Mass. After that was accepted - and it was enormously popular - every other modification of the Roman Rite was relatively easy. Indeed, they were embraced, step-by-step, as "obvious" improvements.
