For this post, we are pleased to present a set of green vestments, made in the traditional Roman style.  The vestments are made from a beautiful green brocade and fully-lined in a deep shade of olive silk.  The chasuble in this post is ornamented in the well-known Roman style, a TAU at the front and a column at the back, formed by a brocade in rose and old gold and an outlining burgundy and gold galloon. 

The chasuble is in the Studio's Saint Philip Neri style, which is the product of years of research into historical vestments and refinement of dimensions for comfortable use.  The Studio revived this more ample 16th century style of the Roman chasuble in 2007 and since then we have made many of them.  Beware of poorly-made imitations!

The Season Per Annum : 10

 

This post features a set of vestments in the Studio's nod to contemporary styles.  This style we call Saint Martin.  It is both long and wide and is especially designed to fold up beautifully when the arms of the celebrant are elevated.

Tasteful contemporary vestments are made by certain studios in Italy, France and Germany, but we also make them here in Australia at the Saint Bede Studio.  This set has a simple dignity and is made from high quality fabrics.

These vestments are made from a darker shade of green brocade and lined with a contrasting green fabric.  The ornament is very simple : a TAU in the front and a column at the back, formed from an ecclesiastical brocade in colours of burgundy and old gold.

The Season Per Annum : 9: our unique braids

In this Season Per Annum the Saint Bede Studio is pleased to present another set of green vestments, in the style we call Saint Cuthbert.

This set is constructed from handmade dupion silk in a rich shade of green, and it is lined in a lovely shade of blue taffeta. The ornament in the traditional Saint Andrew's Cross is formed from a reproduction of a mediaeval braid, in colours of crimson, straw-gold and white upon a blue background. This is one of the Studio's unique braids called Saint Raymund.

At the Saint Bede Studio, we strive to avoid the idea that the designation Ordinary Time is a reason to make green vestments which are non-descript, or lacking in inspiration.  Although not elaborate, this is a beautiful and distinctive set of vestments.

Festal Vestments in the Borromeon Style

In this post we are pleased to present this beautiful set of festal vestments.

These vestments were made from a European brocade in a lovely and subtle shade of gold.  Fully-lined in a shade of dark red cloth, the chasuble is ornamented with a silk damask in colours of old gold upon wine-red.  A galloon of burgundy and straw-gold outlines the TAU ornament at the front of the chasuble and the column at the back. 

The chasuble is in the Studio's Borromeon style, which is the product of years of research into historical vestments and refinement of dimensions for comfortable use.  Notice how well these vestments sit on the wearer !

Gothic Revival vestments : Our unique braids : 4

The vestments glimpsed in this post - a chasuble set - were made from dupion silk in a deep and lovely shade of rose and were fully-lined in a beige-coloured taffeta.  The Saint Bede Studio has made similar vestments on several occasions now and the combination of colours has been found very attractive by our customers.

The vestments are ornamented with one of the Studio's unique braids; it is called Saint George.  Saint George braid has burgundy-coloured roundels, within which is a stylised mediaeval Cross, which is augmented with a central flower.  Between the roundels are other devices which form a stylised crown.  The braid is outlined with stripes of smaller quatrefoils.  The base colour of the braid is a vibrant red; the ornaments are formed from the colour platinum and burgundy is used for contrast.

  

In the attached images, you may notice how this braid is arranged : the greatest care is taken with all our vestments to ensure that braids are precisely and harmoniously aligned, not cutting away design elements.  This very popular orphrey braid we have used on vestments of the liturgical colours white, red, purple, violet, rose and soft gold with great success.

Penitential Vestments : Our Unique braids (3)

The vestments glimpsed in this post - chasuble and dalmatic sets - were made from dupion silk in a deep and lovely shade of purple and were fully-lined in a crimson red taffeta.  The Saint Bede Studio has made similar vestments on several occasions now and the combination of colours has been found very attractive by our customers.

The vestments are ornamented with one of the Studio's unique braids; it is called Saint Austin.  A matching galloon is also depicted, which trims and highlights the edges.  These braids are directly based on some designs of AWN Pugin which have been preserved on some of his surviving vestments.    

In the attached images, you can see how the wider braid employs diaper-work in colours of red, blue and straw-gold in a continuous pattern.  The colours are vibrant and typically mediaeval.

The vestments in this post were made from a magnificent ivory-coloured English brocade and were fully-lined in a muted-gold taffeta.  The Saint Bede Studio has made similar vestments on many occasions now and the combination of colours has been found very attractive by our customers.

The vestments are ornamented with one of the Studio's unique braids; it is called Saint Giles.  Notice how this braid is arranged : the greatest care is taken with all our vestments to ensure that braids are precisely and harmoniously aligned, not obscuring design elements.  

In the attached images, you can see how the braid features burgundy medallions or roundels which enclose a stylised Gothic Cross.  But the background colour of the braid is red.  The colours are vibrant and typically mediaeval.

The vestments are ornamented with one of the Studio's unique braids, being a replica of a design by AWN Pugin; it is called Saint Chad.  Notice how this braid is arranged : the greatest care is taken with all our vestments to ensure that braids are precisely and harmoniously aligned, not cutting away design elements.  

In the attached images, you can see how the braid features red medallions which enclose a Cross, alternating with the first three letter of the Holy Name in a heraldic script : IHS.  The colours are vibrant and typically mediaeval.

The vestments in this post were made from an ecclesiastical brocade in a deep shade of green - green upon black - and fully-lined in a brighter green taffeta.  The Saint Bede Studio has made such vestments on several occasions now and also matching dalmatics.  The combination of colours has been found very attractive by our customers.

The vestments are ornamented with one of the Studio's unique braids, called ChiRho.  Notice how this braid is arranged : the greatest care is taken with all our vestments to ensure that braids are precisely and harmoniously aligned, not cutting away design elements.  

In this post, a section of both a chasuble and dalmatic is shewn.

The Season Per Annum : 7 : our unique braids

The vestments in this post were made from an ecclesiastical brocade in a muted shade of green and fully-lined in crimson-red taffeta.  The Saint Bede Studio has made such vestments on many occasions now and also matching dalmatics.  The combination of colours has been found very attractive by our customers.

The vestments are ornamented with one of the Studio's unique braids, being a replica of a design by AWN Pugin; it is called Saint Chad.  Notice how this braid is arranged : the greatest care is taken with all our vestments to ensure that braids are precisely and harmoniously aligned, not cutting away design elements.  

In the attached image, you can see how carefully the green medallions of this braid are arranged.  

In this instance, the chasuble is worn with an apparel in the mediaeval style, using the same orphrey braid and forming a collar attached to the amice, not to the chasuble.

Saint Martin vestments

An ivory shade of dupion silk is lined with lemon-coloured taffeta and is ornamented with one of the Studio's unique braids (called Saint Raymund) in colours of red, white and straw-gold upon royal blue.  The ornament is very simple : a TAU in the front and a column at the back.

Purple Vestments in the Gothic style

This is the rear view of a set of vestments made from Roman purple dupion silk and ornamented simply with our Studio's Saint Columba braid in colours of burgundy, gold and white upon a red ground.  This braid is distinctive amongst the Studio's suite of unique braids because its ornament is inspired by ancient knot-work of the British Isles. 

The chasuble is in the Studio's Saint Giles style, which is ample and folds beautifully.

On the Feast of the Most Precious Blood

On this beautiful Feast, the Saint Bede Studio is pleased to present this image of a set of red vestments, the colour used for the Apostles, Martyrs and the Passion.  The image shews the lower edge of the chasuble, including its lining, and the adjacent stole ornamented with a brush fringe.

The set was made from dupion silk in a subdued shade of red.  It is not the fiery  red used for the Feasts of the Holy Spirit, but closer to colour of blood.  The vestments were ornamented in the Roman style, with a TAU at the front and a column at the back, formed from a damask in colours of red and straw gold and an outlining galloon.  The lining was made of bronze-coloured taffeta.

The chasuble is in the Studio's Saint Philip Neri style, which is the product of years of research into historical vestments and refinement of dimensions for comfortable use.  The Studio revived this more ample 16th century style of the Roman chasuble in 2007 and since then we have made many of them.  Beware of poorly-designed imitations!

The work of the Saint Bede Studio is distinctive for its artistic qualities and the pains taken with every detail, such as the alignment of ornaments.  Even a restrained set of vestments like this is striking for its combination of colours and fine workmanship.
