This post features a set of red vestments in the Studio's Saint Cuthbert style.  This chasuble is both long and wide and is especially designed to fold up beautifully when the arms of the celebrant are elevated. 

The vestments of the Saint Bede Studio are beautiful in design, sound in construction and distinctive in appearance.

The Saint Cuthbert chasuble is notable for a steeply-angled Y-orphrey, which is especially effective when the ornament is formed from a narrow galloon.  This ornament replicates certain mediaeval chasubles which have survived and others depicted in manuscript illuminations.

Tasteful contemporary vestments are made by certain studios in Italy, France and Germany, but we also make them here in Australia at the Saint Bede Studio.  This set has a simple dignity and is made from high quality fabrics.

Crimson-red dupion silk is lined with a copper-coloured taffeta and is ornamented with one of the Studio's braids called Saxony, being knotwork in three colours.

The Season Per Annum 2026 : 3

In this post, we are pleased to present this set of vestments in the Saint Cuthbert style.  These vestments are both ample and simply decorated.  They are lightweight and comfortable to wear.  

The vestments are of handmade dupion silk from India and ornamented with a narrow braid, being a unique design of the Studio, called Saint Raymund.  The braid is in colours of burgundy, taup and red.  The ornamental scheme is enriched with a chevron of brocade around the neckline in green and black.  The set is entirely lined with a deep red-coloured taffeta.

In the Season of Advent 2025 : 2

In this Season of Advent, the Saint Bede Studio is pleased to present this set of vestments.

The vestments were made from an ecclesiastical brocade in a deep shade of violet.  A deep, narrow chevron formed from Peacock blue brocade was framed with a galloon comprised of knotwork in black upon a taup background.  This formed the chasuble ornament, front and back.  The vestments were fully lined in a lovely teal-blue taffeta.

These vestments are in the Studio's Saint Cuthbert form which is ample, but carefully shaped to avoid falling upon the wearer like a blanket.

During this holy Season of Advent, the Saint Bede Studio is pleased to present a set of violet vestments.  

This distinctive set of vestments was made from silk dupion in a lighter hue of violet; it was lined with a taffeta in a dark shade of purple.  The colour of the vestment inclines towards blue; but it is distinctly violet, as distinct from purple or blue.

The chasuble is in the style we call Saint Cuthbert,  being a contemporary version of a mediaeval chasuble.  The chasuble is very ample, being both wide and long, and is ornamented with a narrow braid in the familiar "Y" arrangement.  

The braid ornamenting these vestments is purple and ivory, upon a black base.  It is complemented by a narrow galloon in a lighter shade.

Saint Cuthbert Vestments

On the Feast of S' Andrew the Apostle

On this Feast of the Apostle, Andrew and the last day of the Liturgical year, we are pleased to present these red vestments, in an ample Gothic style.  

The set is constructed from dupion silk in a rich shade of crimson-red.  There is a black cross-weave in the fabric giving the set the appearance of a darker and distinctive red. 

The ornament is in the English style and is formed from an orphrey braid in colours of red and straw-gold upon blue.  This braid, named Saint Chad, is one of the unique braids of the Saint Bede Studio and directly based on the work of Gothic Revival luminary AWN Pugin.  The use of a simple quatrefoil galloon in straw-gold upon blue outlines the chasuble.

The Month of the Holy Souls : 4

In this post, during the month of the Holy Souls, we are pleased to present a further set of black vestments.  The liturgical colour of vestments which have been most rarely made by the Saint Bede Studio over the almost 25 years of our work is BLACK.  It is obvious that within the Church there is still an unease about wearing black vestments at funerals.  We will write more about this in a subsequent post.

These vestments were made from black dupion silk and were fully-lined in taffeta of a rust-red shade. The chasuble is ornamented very simply with a galloon of black and rust-red knotwork upon a taup-coloured base.

The Season Per Annum : 9: our unique braids

In this Season Per Annum the Saint Bede Studio is pleased to present another set of green vestments, in the style we call Saint Cuthbert.

This set is constructed from handmade dupion silk in a rich shade of green, and it is lined in a lovely shade of blue taffeta. The ornament in the traditional Saint Andrew's Cross is formed from a reproduction of a mediaeval braid, in colours of crimson, straw-gold and white upon a blue background. This is one of the Studio's unique braids called Saint Raymund.

At the Saint Bede Studio, we strive to avoid the idea that the designation Ordinary Time is a reason to make green vestments which are non-descript, or lacking in inspiration.  Although not elaborate, this is a beautiful and distinctive set of vestments.

Lenten Purple : 8

This is a set of vestments in a very different shade of Lenten purple.  It is not a blue-violet, but the colour of a grape, a deep shade, but slightly redder.  

Made from a simple fabric, the chasuble is enriched with a brocade in a shade of crimson-purple and ornamented simply with a knotwork braid in colours of taupe and black. 

Also depicted in an apparel formed from the braid and attached to the amice (not to the chasuble). 

The chasuble is in the Studio's Saint Cuthbert  style, which is very ample and folds beautifully when the arms of the wearer are elevated.

In Honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary

During this holy Season of Advent, the Saint Bede Studio is pleased to present a set of Marian vestments completed this year for a returning customer.  

This elegant but simple set of vestments was made from silk dupion; it was lined with a taffeta in a shade of teal blue.  

The chasuble is in the style we call Saint Cuthbert,  being a contemporary version of a mediaeval chasuble.  The chasuble is very ample, being both wide and long, and is ornamented with a narrow braid in the familiar "Y" arrangement.  

The braid ornamenting these vestments is a lovely braid in two shades of blue, picked-out with gold thread.  This braid is outlined by a narrow galloon in a shade of pale yellow.

Vestments for the Season "Per Annum" : 7

In this Season  Per Annum  the Saint Bede Studio is pleased to present another set of green vestments, recently completed for a returning customer from the United States.

This set is in the style we call Saint Martin.  This style is the Saint Bede Studio's own contemporary interpretation of the ancient form of Roman chasuble.  It is extremely ample but, being carefully shaped, does not fall like a blanket on the wearer (as so many contemporary vestments do).  Rather it falls into the folds of the arms and gathers gracefully. 

This set is constructed from handmade dupion silk in a rich shade of green, and it is lined in a lovely shade of blue taffeta.  The ornament in the traditional Saint Andrew's Cross is formed from a reproduction of a mediaeval braid, in colours of crimson, straw-gold and white upon a blue background.  This is one of the Studio's unique braids called Saint Raymund.

The vestments were made from black dupion silk.  A chevron formed from black brocade was framed with one of the Studio's galloons called Saxony, comprising knotwork in burnt orange and black upon a taup background.  This formed the chasuble ornament, front and back.  The vestments were fully lined in a bronze-coloured taffeta. 

These vestments are in the Studio's Saint Martin form which is very ample, but carefully shaped to avoid falling upon the wearer like a blanket.

Recently, the Saint Bede Studio completed this set of vestments in the Saint Martin style for a returning customer, a young priest from Croatia.  These vestments are both ample and simply decorated.  They are lightweight and comfortable to wear.  Our customer requested a colour-scheme of green and red.
