For a too-brief period, a new Master of Papal Ceremonies, Monsignor Guido Marini, introduced into the Papal suite chasubles in the Borromeon form (often written about on this Blog).
This post features a remarkable set of vestments, made from a reproduction of a Renaissance damask, which was used in the venerable Basilica of Santa Sabina on Ash Wednesday 2009. Beautiful as it was, unfortunately the chasuble was not used again. Matching dalmatics are also shewn.
Being a Penitential day, the Pope wore the mitra simplex with these vestments and on this occasion the mitre was of a very pleasing height on the Pope, avoiding squatness of previous manifestations and on the other hand, the exaggerated height of mitres of the High Baroque.
Because of the splendour of this chasuble and its beautiful proportions, several photographs are included here.
