Benedict XVI : 8

Pope Benedict XVI vestments
Ss Peter and Paul 2008.
This post features two red copes, quite different in style, but astonishing in their magnificence. They were used for Vespers of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul in 2008 and 2010. This Solemn Celebration of Vespers takes place in the Basilica of Saint Paul's-Without-the-Walls each year.

The 2008 cope matched the vestments used on Pentecost of the same year, as shewn in post 7 of this series.

The 2010 cope is more modern in appearance, but employing somewhat distinctive fabrics. A crimson red damask is used, which has a woven design carried in a contrasting colour: a very muted gold.  The ornament is formed from parallel lines of a wide galloon in silver and gold.  In one photograph, splendid dalmatics worn by the Cardinal-deacons are shewn.

Several photographs of these vestments are included here, because of their great beauty.
