A simple set of Festal vestments

Festal vestments

In this post, we review a set of vestments in the Saint Bede Studio's Saint Anselm style.

This style of chasuble, which we have been making for several years now, is simple and comfortable to wear.  Although the chasuble is unlined, it is made from substantial, not flimsy material, so that it hangs down well.  Around the neckline, on the underside of the chasuble is a facing, which causes the vestments to sit well on the shoulders.

Concerning the appearance of this vestment, it is intended to be a mixture of the contemporary and the traditional.  It is a long chasuble and reaching near to the wrists.  It is ornamented simply.  The colour of the ornament varies, but consists of two columns made from silk with a selection of the Studio's unique braids.

The Saint Bede Studio

In the case of this chasuble, the Studio's braid Saint George is laid upon pendants of vibrant red silk dupion.  These pendants are attached to the front and to the back of chasuble.

Each of these simpler chasubles is supplied with a fully-lined stole.  They are available in all the liturgical colours.

The vestments of the Saint Bede Studio are beautiful in design, sound in construction and distinctive in appearance.

The Season Per Annum 2025 : 15

The Saint Bede Studio

In this post is depicted a set of vestments in a subtle shade of green brocade and ornamented with the Studio's Sancte Deus orphrey braid.  This braid is in the distinctive colours of deep blue and ivory upon a green background.

This set of vestments is distinct from the Studio usual offerings.  The chasuble is unlined, but sturdily faced on the inside of the neckline.  The ornament is in the form of a TAU, arranged with braid.  Although it was designed as a concelebration set, nothing would prevent its use on ferial days.

The vestments of the Saint Bede Studio are beautiful in design, sound in construction and distinctive in appearance.

In Ascensiontide : 4

This post features a further set of Festal vestments in the Studio's nod to the contemporary.  This style we call Saint Anselm.

The vestments of the Saint Bede Studio are beautiful in design, sound in construction and distinctive in appearance.

The Saint Bede Studio

Tasteful contemporary vestments are made by certain studios in Italy, France and Germany, but we also make them here in Australia at the Saint Bede Studio.  This set has a simple dignity and is made from high quality fabrics.

The chasuble (which is unlined) and stole are made from a sturdy cream-coloured moirĂ© taffeta.  A column ornaments the back and front of the chasuble, formed from one of the Studio's unique braids called Saint Edmund, and based on the designs of AWN Pugin.

These vestments are exceedingly comfortable to wear and not in the least flimsy.

Vestments for the Season of Lent 2025 : 7

Purple vestments
In this post is shewn two sections of a simple chasuble ornamented with a column at the front and the back.  The columns are decorated with one of the Studio's unique braids Saint Dunstan in colours of violet, taup and white upon a red background.  This braid was specially developed to ornament violet and rose-coloured vestments.

The braid is laid upon an orphrey panel formed from red dupion silk.

This set of vestments is in the style we have called Saint Anselm; it is not elaborate, but neither is it just thrown-together.  It is well-designed and of dignified appearance.  Note that the column is made from a red-coloured dupion silk, which complements the colour of the braid.  We also find that the column is not of exaggerated width, but of substantial appearance.  The shape of the neckline, coming to a shallow "V" at the front, but rounded at the back is elegant but sturdy and lacking the awful fold over collars which are all-too-frequently attached to chasubles.

There is much to be said for vestments of simple dignity.  These vestments are well-made and will be serviceable for a number of years if treated respectfully.

Vestments for the Season "Per Annum" : 4

Saint Anselm Vestments
In this post, we are pleased to present a simple but elegant set of vestments recently purchased by a returning American customer.  This particular style of chasuble we have called Saint Anselm.  It differs from our usual sets in that the chasuble is unlined (although the accessories are fully lined).

The Saint Bede Studio's Saint Anselm vestments are especially designed for warmer climates; but they might also be used where there is a preference for less elaborate vestments, whilst still being worthy and dignified.  Such vestments might also be used in concelebrations or in Masses celebrated during the week.

The Saint Bede Studio
The front and the back of the Saint Anselm chasuble is decorated with a pendant approximately 15cm (6 inches) wide.  The pendants are sewn into the chasuble neckline and do not hang loosely.  We usually construct these pendants from silk upon which is a stripe of one of the Studio's unique braids.  In the case of this set of vestments, the pendants are formed from crimson dupion silk, ornamented with our Saint James orphrey braid.

The Saint Anselm chasuble

The neckline of the front of the Saint Anselm chasuble is specially shaped into a curved "V".  Sometimes we make an amice apparel to accompany the chasuble, but no form of attached roll-over collar is attached to our vestments.  Everything about these vestments is good, well-crafted and sturdy; they are easy to wear, but not fly-weight.

Vestments for Pentecost : 4

As Pentecost approaches, we are pleased to present some of the red vestments made by the Saint Bede Studio.

Red vestments

This simple set of vestments is part of our "economy" range.  The chasuble is unlined, but has a sturdy facing inside allowing it to sit gracefully around the neckline.

This particular set was made from dupion silk in a lovely shade of red, and ornamented in a distinctive but restrained manner.  The ornament was formed from one of the Studio's unique braids Gothic foliage in colours of black and gold.

Festal vestments and mitre

The Saint Bede Studio
In this post, we feature a chasuble and mitre set recently made for the newly-appointed Bishop of Maitland & Newcastle (Province of Sydney, Australia).

The chasuble was made from moirĂ© taffeta, which is noteworthy for its vertical watermark effect, created during manufacture.  It is a fabric which is not too flimsy and has pleasing drapery.  Ornamenting the chasuble, back and front, is a column formed from straw-gold dupion silk, upon which is imposed one of the Studio's unique braids Saint Edmund.

The mitre has the same decorative scheme, but its ornamented is formed from a much narrower version of the Saint Edmund braid.
